In the city or on twisty country roads, the lightweight, rider-friendly Ninja 250R is a
blast to ride! With an engine character that can be fully exploited, a compact, easyto -
operate chassis and full-fairing supersport styling worthy of its moniker, this model was
developed to offer street sport performance to riders of all skill levels.

Powered by a gutsy 249 cm3 parallel twin, this lightweight Ninja is loaded with
riderfriendly features such as a low seat height, low-effort controls and a comfortable
riding position. Best of all, like the Ninja ZX-10R and 6R supersport bikes, the Ninja
250R places control firmly in the hands of the rider, making it the most exciting bike in its category.

Lightweight handling, easy controllability and gutsy throttle response make the 250R fun
to ride on city streets. For great handling and high stability it runs 17-inch wheels.
Powerful 2-piston disc brake delivers plenty of stopping power with sensitive feel at the
lever. Like Kawasaki's other sport models, the Ninja 250R is fitted with petal discs for
efficient heat dissipation. A natural, upright riding position and comfortable ergonomics
give riders the feeling of control needed for the active, sporty riding for which the 250R was designed.

aggressive full fairing and kicked up muffler to the racy dual seat, this is the most

KEY FEATURES

249 cm3 LIQUID-COOLED, DOHC PARALLEL TWIN ENGINE
Carburettor (EX250J only)
* Settings for the twin Keihin CVK30 carburettors were idealised for good power feel with
low fuel consumption.

Cylinder head
* Idealised intake and exhaust ports contribute to good off-idle response and smooth power
delivery.
* Direct valve actuation ensures reliable high-rpm operability.
* Valves with thin heads and stems reduce reciprocating weight.
* Valve timing and lift were designed for low- and mid-range torque.

Fuel injection / Dual throttles (EX250K only)
* Fine-atomising (8-hole) injectors with a droplet size of 60 µ contribute to mid- and
high-rpm throttle response.
* Like the Ninja ZX-6R, the Ninja 250R features dual throttle valves for responsive power
across the rev range,
smooth, linear throttle response and good fuel consumption. Throttle body size is 28 mm.

* Ignition system based on that of the ER-6n/6f offers high durability and reliability.
Plugmounted coils deliver a
hot spark while saving space.

Piston / Cylinder
* Pistons feature reinforced heads and strengthening in the pin boss area for increased
durability. (Longitudinally) thick piston rings help minimise oil consumption.
* Combustion chamber design optimises the squish area, maximising combustion efficiency
and thereby reducing emissions.

Transmission / Clutch
* Involute splines reduce friction and backlash between gears and shafts for easier gear
meshing and ensure smooth shifting under power.
* Spring-type clutch damper contributes to a smooth clutch feel, reducing jerkiness at
very low speeds and minimising shocks when rolling on and off the throttle.
* Paper-base friction plates contribute to durability.

Exhaust system
* The 2-into-1 exhaust system contributes to low- and mid-range torque and helps achieve
the Ninja 250R's smooth, step-free power curve.
* Slightly upswept silencer underwent extensive testing to determine chamber division
ratios and connecting pipe length and diameter. The result is reduced noisewith minimum

power loss.
* Dual catalysers, one in the collector pipe, one in the silencer, ensure strict emissions
are met. Locating the first catalyser as close to the exhaust ports as possible maximises

its efficiency.

Using two catalysers enables power loss to be minimised.
(Carburetted models features pipe catalysers; fuel injected models use honeycomb
catalysers.)

Cooling
* Latest generation Denso radiator offers superior cooling performance while minimising
space and weight.
* Noise-reducing ring-fan is operated by quiet-running print motor that also contributes
to space savings.
* Fins on the lower side of the crankcase further contribute to engine cooling.

Mechanical noise reduction
* Cam chain tensioner like that used on our KX450F motocrosser features an automatic
adjuster with threads and springs.

The system automatically eliminates mechanical noise caused by a loose cam
chain, reducing power-robbing friction loss.
* The air cleaner features a complex construction with reinforcing ribs that help
eliminate reverberation, for reduced intake noise. Extensive testing to determine the

diameter,
length and thickness of the intake ducting ensures efficient filling.

RIDER-FRIENDLY CHASSIS
Sturdy frame and swingarm provide a strong, rigid base for the Ninja 250R. Front and rear
suspension with firm settings and 17" wheels complete a smooth, rider-friendly package
that offers confidence-inspiring stability at both high and low speeds.

Frame / Swingarm
* Diamond-style frame of thick-walled steel tubing is both strong and durable.
* Beefy swingarm bracket contributes to the frame's rigidity and helps achieve an ideal
chassis stiffness balance.
* Attractive square-tube swingarm with a 60 x 30 mm cross-section further contributes to
rigidity.
Suspension
* 37 mm telescopic front fork contributes to the Ninja 250R's smooth, stable handling.
Firm settings keep pitching motion to a minimum.
* Uni-Trak rear suspension provides great road holding ability and bump absorption. The
rear shock features
5-way adjustable preload, enabling ride height to be maintained whether riding solo or
with a passenger.

Wheels / Tyres
* The Ninja 250R features 17" wheels like its larger supersport brothers. Wide rims
support lowprofile tyres. Rims measure 17xMT2.75 (front) and 17xMT3.50 (rear).
* Sporty, low-profile tyres contribute to easy, neutral handling at low speeds.
Brakes
* Petal disc brakes, just like our Ninja supersport models, offer excellent heat
dissipation and contribute to the Ninja 250R's top-class looks.
* Large-diameter, 290 mm front disc gripped by a balanced action two-piston caliper offers
excellent braking performance and natural, direct feeling at the lever.
* At the rear, a two-piston caliper grips a 220 mm disc.

Ergonomics
* With its slightly forward-slanting seat and wide, raised handlebars, the Ninja 250R
offers a natural riding position.
* Attention to detail when it came to the rider interface mean that even the feel of
buttons were carefully designed to be pleasant to the touch.

TOP-CLASS SUPERSPORT STYLING
The Ninja 250R features styling that would not be out of place on our larger-displacement
Ninja supersport models. The striking full-fairing bodywork has a superb fit and finish

that looks as good
up close as it does from a distance.

Bodywork
* Large-volume bodywork gives the 250R the appearance of a larger-displacement machine.

* Front cowling and windscreen offer the rider a substantial amount of wind protection.

* Air cleaner element can be accessed from the side, facilitating replacement.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES
* Two helmet holders are conveniently located under the rear seat.
* Under-seat storage can hold a U-lock or similar device.
* Two hooks under the tail and the rear passenger pegs provide tie-down points for
securing items to the
rear of the bike.
* Slim tail cowl and separate seats further enhance the supersport
* Optional single seat cover can replace the tandem seat for an even more aggressive
image.

Instrumentation
* Attractive instrument panel features an easy-to-read large-face analogue speedometer.

Other instrumentation
includes an analogue tachometer, odometer, trip meter and warning lamps.
